Parker String Quartet
The Parker String Quartet: Daniel Chong, violin; Karen Kim, violin; Jessica Bodner, viola, and Kee-Hyun Kim, cello; has been hailed by "The Washington Post" as "a quartet that deserves close attention". The Quartet has recently been selected to receive the Cleveland Quartet Award. Established in 1995, the biennial award honors and promotes a rising young string quartet whose artistry demonstrates that it is in the process of establishing a major career.
The Parker Quartet’s members hold graduate degrees in performance and chamber music from the New England Conservatory of Music and were part of the NEC’s prestigious Professional String Quartet Training Program. The Quartet was founded there and in 2002 and 2003 held the post of NEC’s Honors Ensemble.
The concert is open to the public at no charge (donations appreciated).
Equally at home in a concert hall or a downtown club, the Quartet embraces opportunities to bring its music to new ears in non-traditional spaces. As part of their residency here, the group will perform a second concert:
9:30 p.m., Friday, February 27, 2009
The Kitchen Pass Restaurant
1212 S. Main Street, Joplin
(small cover charge will apply)
The three day residencey is funded in part by a $5,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts through their “American Masterpieces: Three Centuries of Artistic Genius” program. The National Endowment for the Arts believes that a great nation deserves great art.
At all of the Quartet’s appearances during their residency they will be performing music composed by Americans, as fulfillment of the grant’s requirement that their concerts present only music by American composers.
